Popular video-game, Final Fantasy publisher, Square Enix, has joined forces with gaming blockchain, Oasys, as its final initial validator ahead of its public launch later this year.
Blockchain gaming is one of the biggest sub sectors withing crypto, right now. As more and more people are embracing Web3, the blockchain gaming space is booming with explosive developments. According to a report by data analytics company DappRadar, Web3-based games and Metaverse projects raised nearly $748 million since August 1, 2022.
Despite the current bear market, blockchain based games haven’t quite lost appetite. Recently, Animoca Brands KK, the Japanese unit of Hong Kong based gaming juggernaut, Animoca Brands, secured $45 million at a $500 million pre-money valuation.
The Partnership Will Boost Blockchain Gaming

According to official blogpost, Square Enix and Oasys will explore the “feasibility of harnessing user contributions in the development of new games on the Oasys blockchain”. With this move, Square Enix has joined 20 other initial node validators including other Japanese gaming giants SEGA and Bandai Namco, as well as Ubisoft, Yield Guild Games, WeMade, NEOWIZ, Netmarble and Com2Us.
As per the announcement, the collaboration will align with Square Enix’s vision to explore the development of decentralised games. In a bid to bolster its vision, the Japanese video game company had also launched its own Blockchain Entertainment Business division in April. Yosuke Saito, Director, Square Enix Blockchain Entertainment Division said that the partnership with Oasys will build an unconventional play experiences for gamers across the globe. He added,
“We are excited to join the Oasys team and others in the gaming community on this project. Our shared enthusiasm for Web3 gaming makes this an exciting partnership for and we look forward to gaining insights that can advance the creation of all-new play experiences for gamers across the globe.”
Oasys Blockchain Built for Gamers by Gamers
Oasys is a Japan and Singapore based startup, that has built a blockchain for gaming developers. Earlier this year, the company raised $20 million with participation from Crypto.com, Huobi and Kucoin among many others. The Oasys blockchain officially launched on February 7 with the aim to take blockchain gaming to the masses.

Daiki Moriyama, Director at Oasys, suggested that the collaboration with Square Enix will help Oasys to boost mainstream play-to-earn (P2E) adoption. He remarked,
“With our partnership, we will be able to truly bring new experiences and empower gaming fans from all backgrounds while helping to establish the next stage of growth for blockchain entertainment.”
