TL;DR:
- Telegram filed an application with ICANN for the .gram domain, which would allow its one billion users to have their own web addresses.
- The application window closed on August 12 with more than 1,600 primary applications; approval could take until 2027.
- The GRAM token is trading near $1.32, down 35% over 90 days and 84% below its all-time high of $8.25.
The founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, filed an application with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to register the .gram domain within the 2026 application round.
The proposal would allow Telegram users to claim web addresses matching their current usernames within the platform, transforming existing identities into destinations accessible from any browser. According to Durov, a single artificial intelligence prompt would be enough to generate those pages, with hosting managed entirely by the platform itself.
Telegram has applied for the .gram domain zone.
If the application is approved by ICANN, a billion Telegram users could get their own second-level domains — yourname.gram.
Users would be able to set up their interactive websites hosted by Telegram — with one prompt ✨

Telegram: More Than 1,600 Applications Compete for the Web3 Future
The application window closed on August 12 after 15 active weeks, a period during which ICANN received more than 1,600 primary applications and another 1,100 backup string requests. Publication of the approved strings is scheduled for mid-October, although the evaluation, dispute resolution, and contract formalization processes could extend several additional months. In practice, this means a functional .gram address will likely not be available before 2027. Furthermore, there is no official confirmation that each account would receive its domain free of charge.
The GRAM Token Accumulates Heavy Losses
Market figures do not match the enthusiasm of the announcement. The token GRAM is trading at around $1.32, representing a drop of approximately 35% over the last 90 days and a collapse of 84% from its all-time high of $8.25, recorded in June 2024. Its market capitalization stands at around $3.65 billion.
Even so, the Telegram ecosystem continues to expand. The network is moving forward with plans to launch a native non-custodial wallet, and the platform maintains an active role in the network’s validator infrastructure. Whether those initiatives will ultimately impact the prospects of the .gram domain remains an open question. For now, the biggest obstacle is not adoption but getting ICANN to approve the application in the first place.
