Coinbase and Moov announced a partnership to bring stablecoin capabilities to more than 1,000 community banks and credit unions in the United States. The integration incorporates payment acceptance, settlement, and real-time funding directly into the systems these institutions already use, without requiring them to build a separate technology infrastructure.
Moov will integrate Coinbase’s stablecoin payment infrastructure into its platform. The exchange contributes the regulated digital asset infrastructure, while Moov connects those capabilities with the payment systems that financial institutions and their clients already know. The contemplated use cases range from consumer payments and merchant acceptance to settlement and disbursements.
Ryan VanGrack, Vice President and Head of Corporate Affairs at Coinbase, noted that modern technology must reach local institutions where they are, equipping them with tools to compete with larger players without losing their role of trust within their communities.
The partnership also has the backing of Jill Castilla, President and CEO of Citizens Bank of Edmond, who emphasized that her small business customers are looking to reduce interchange costs and get paid faster. Both companies anticipated that, over time, they will explore how digital assets can connect with more financial products that these institutions already offer.
