The world’s largest movie exhibition company, AMC Theatres, just revealed that the company will start accepting popular meme cryptocurrencies- dogecoin (DOGE) and shiba inu (SHIB) from this month onwards.

The cryptocurrency market was on a rollercoaster ride the last couple of weeks. Despite faltering, after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared military operation in Ukraine, several cryptocurrencies have started to demonstrate signs of recovery.

Meme coins such as DOGE and SHIB are are up by almost 7.66 per cent and 9.8 per cent respectively in the last 24 hours. At print time DOGE is hovering around $0.1325, while SHIB is standing around $0.00258.

On February 28, Adam Aron, the CEO of the largest movie theater chain in the world – AMC Theatres announced that starting from March, AMC Theatres, will commence accepting payments in two popular meme cryptocurrencies, dogecoin (DOGE) and shiba Inu (SHIB). Aron tweeted,

“BitPay will be live for AMC online payments on our web site by March 19, and live on our mobile apps by April 16. Possibly a few days earlier. BitPay, and therefore soon AMC, accepts Doge Coin and Shiba Inu.”

In November 2021, AMC Theatres, a unit of AMC Entertainment Holdings (AMC) began accepting bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), bitcoin cash (BCH) and litecoin (LTC) for payments, and promised DOGE was coming soon. At that time, AMC also said it would explore using shiba inu.

Following the announcement after the company started accepting cryptocurrency, CEO Adam Aron set up a poll on Twitter to ask the crypto community if his company should also accept the popular meme cryptocurrency dogecoin (DOGE).

According to the poll results, 68.1% of the 140,388 voters said, “Yes, for sure do it.” A further 8.6% supported the addition of dogecoin as a payment method but said they “won’t use it.” Only 23.3% said “no” to the company accepting DOGE. After the results of the poll went out, Aron said,

“So Fascinating! Dogecoin Poll was by far my highest ever read tweet. In 24 hours, 4.2 million views, my most ever retweets, most ever replies. 140,000 votes 77% yes 23% no.”

Recently, a new cryptocurrency-themed restaurant called “Doge Burger” was launched in Dubai, allowing customers to pay for their food using digital assets. It will offer many “doge-inspired” burgers which can be delivered directly to customers’ doors. Last year, Tesla Taxi Aschaffenburg, a German taxi company that has only Tesla cars has enabled its customers to use DOGE to pay for their rides.
