The hacker who attacked the Shibarium bridge for $2.4 million in September rejected the bounty offered by K9 Finance, returning the unclaimed ETH to the contributors, including the Shiba Inu team.
Shima, a Shiba Inu and K9 Finance collaborator, conducted an undercover investigation and identified a mistake by the hacker: an accidental transfer of 0.0874 ETH to a secret wallet allowed the original accounts to be linked to funds routed through Tornado Cash and deposits on KuCoin. This finding removed the attackerās anonymity and traced the full flow of the stolen funds.
The Shibarium team coordinated the information with the appropriate authorities, aiming to recover any potentially frozen funds on KuCoin. Developer Kaal Dhairya confirmed that the report will be sent to the FBI and the exchange to initiate legal action, while the investigation continues to ensure answers for the community.
