Arthur Hayes Sees AI Debt Driving Bitcoin to $1M

Arthur Hayes says Bitcoin could reach $1M by 2030 if an AI credit downturn triggers monetary intervention and a major expansion in global liquidity.

Arthur Hayes said Bitcoin could reach $1 million by 2030 if a debt-fueled artificial intelligence infrastructure boom eventually unravels. The Maelstrom chief investment officer sees late 2027 or early 2028 as a potential turning point, with an AI credit downturn potentially setting up Bitcoin’s strongest rally through a wave of new financial-system liquidity.

Hayes argues that data centers, chips and computing infrastructure are being financed with large amounts of debt that could become vulnerable if revenues fail to justify the investment. In his scenario, losses could spread to lenders and other financial institutions, prompting governments and central banks to respond with monetary support, while the resulting liquidity expansion could benefit scarce assets such as Bitcoin.

The $1 million level remains Hayes’ long-term scenario rather than a guaranteed outcome. The key development to watch is whether AI infrastructure spending slows enough to expose stress in the credit behind the buildout, followed by the kind of large-scale policy response Hayes expects would redirect capital toward crypto markets.
