Aptos Labs announced MonoMove, the most ambitious upgrade in the history of its blockchain’s execution engine.
In internal tests, the new system processed smart contracts up to 55 times faster than the current engine, with improvements of up to 22 times in order placement and an increase of up to 11 times in end-to-end sequential throughput, which measures how many transactions the network can process over time.
Introducing MonoMove, Aptos' new execution engine and the biggest scalability upgrade in network history.
Moving global markets onchain takes a new standard of speed and safety. MonoMove delivers both, executing the smart contracts behind every onchain market up to 55x faster.… pic.twitter.com/qeAdL73Zfx

The tests simulated order books, liquidity pools, lending markets, oracle updates, and payment flows.
Beyond speed, MonoMove incorporates engine-level security protections, preserving the rules of the Move programming language that govern how digital assets are created, copied, and transferred.
It also adds redundant checks to protect funds against potential failures in the verifier or virtual machine. “MonoMove would deliver the fastest smart contract execution we have ever measured, built on the strongest security model in blockchain,” said Avery Ching, co-founder and CEO of Aptos Labs.
The engine is expected to reach feature completeness by the end of 2026, with mainnet deployment planned for 2027, subject to a governance vote.
