Agglayer Turns Chain‑Agnostic With Miden Joining Testnet

Agglayer completed on testnet the first bidirectional value settlement between Ethereum and a chain that does not run the EVM, a fundamental achievement in its evolution toward chain agnosticism. The integration involved Miden, a ZK-native blockchain incubated by Polygon Labs, which became the first network to cross the bridge without sharing Ethereum’s architecture.

Unlike every chain connected so far, Miden has no account balances in the Ethereum sense, but instead a model based on individual value notes with their own conditions. Furthermore, proofs are generated client-side: the user’s device produces the cryptographic proof and the network verifies its validity without accessing the underlying transaction data. Amounts, counterparties and balances remain confidential by protocol design.

The technical integration required building a new circuit within Agglayer’s pessimistic proof system capable of reading Miden’s note-based state, rather than the EVM’s Merkle Patricia tree. The bridge uses two types of custom notes —one for the inbound leg and one for the outbound leg— and employs nullifiers as an authorization mechanism in the L1 bridge contract, with no multisigs or external operators.

The integration is live on Agglayer Bali, the staging environment prior to mainnet deployment.
