Coinbase Strengthens Its Stablecoin Offerings
For years, Circle’s USDC was the main stablecoin offered by Coinbase. However, the exchange has begun adding other dollar-pegged assets to expand the options available on its platform.
These include PayPal’s PYUSD, as well as Open USD, a stablecoin issued through a joint venture backed by a consortium that includes Visa, Mastercard, and Coinbase.
These digital currencies are commonly used to buy and sell cryptocurrencies without having to convert funds into traditional bank money. They can also be used for transfers, international payments, and corporate treasury operations.
The exchange confirmed that RLUSD will be available to both retail users and institutional clients, making the stablecoin more accessible within the U.S. market.
Ripple Expands RLUSD Distribution
The addition of RLUSD also represents an expansion of Ripple’s distribution channels, as the company develops payment and settlement infrastructure for businesses and financial institutions.
Ripple launched the stablecoin to facilitate international transfers and near-instant settlements using blockchain networks.
Jack McDonald, Ripple’s senior vice president of stablecoins, emphasized the importance of Coinbase not only listing RLUSD but also allowing customers to use it across its various services.
The stablecoin has already surpassed $2.5 billion in market capitalization, reaching that figure less than two years after its launch.
Ripple aims to expand its use beyond cryptocurrency trading, particularly in international payments and corporate treasury management.
Meanwhile, Coinbase continues to diversify its dollar-pegged asset offerings, adding stablecoins issued by different companies and backed by different financial structures.
