Moody’s Ratings has assigned Ripple USD (RLUSD) an A2 long-term deposit rating and a P-1 short-term deposit rating under its stablecoin methodology. The assessment covers RLUSD issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company. The A2 rating places RLUSD in investment-grade territory, while P-1 is Moody’s highest short-term rating, giving the stablecoin a traditional credit benchmark for reserve and redemption risk.
Moody’s said the rating reflects the credit quality and market value of RLUSD’s reserves, reserve coverage, liquidity, redemption arrangements, segregation of assets and third-party custody. The reserve is predominantly invested in short-duration U.S. government assets and cash, with Standard Custody targeting 103% coverage. BNY, rated Aa1 by Moody’s, holds the majority of the reserve assets as custodian, supporting the structure behind the dollar-backed stablecoin.
The ratings are not a guarantee that RLUSD will maintain its peg or remain unchanged. Moody’s said deterioration in reserve credit quality or market value, weaker coverage, or reduced liquidity and redemption capacity could pressure the ratings. The next metric to watch is whether RLUSD maintains the reserve and liquidity characteristics supporting its A2 and P-1 assessments as adoption and circulating supply evolve.
