TL;DR

  • Morpho announced plans to launch Midnight Adapter, allowing its vaults to allocate funds to fixed-rate lending markets.
  • The integration will give Midnight access to approximately $5 billion currently deposited in Morpho Vaults, which have so far operated in variable-rate markets.
  • Vault curators will be able to configure interest rates, maturities, and capital utilization levels. Morpho will also introduce risk limits and withdrawal mechanisms.

Morpho announced the launch of Midnight Adapter, a tool that will allow its investment vaults to allocate liquidity to lending markets with fixed interest rates and defined maturities.

The integration will become available during the fourth quarter of 2026 and will support both existing and new vaults. Currently, Vaults V2 uses Morpho Blue markets, where interest rates vary according to market conditions.

With the new adapter, vaults will be able to allocate deposits across Blue and Midnight, an infrastructure that allows lending terms to be established before positions are opened.

Morpho to Make $5 Billion in Liquidity Available to Midnight Markets

According to the protocol, Morpho Vaults currently manages approximately $5 billion in deposits that could be allocated to Midnight markets once the adapter goes live.

Vault managers, known as curators, will be able to determine the interest rates they are willing to accept, the maturities, and the proportion of funds allocated to each market.

The integration will also allow capital utilization levels to be adjusted. While Morpho Blue targets 90% utilization, Midnight’s fixed-term positions could approach 100%.

Higher utilization can increase yields, but it also reduces the liquidity available to process withdrawals. For this reason, vaults will be able to combine positions across both markets while keeping some funds unallocated.

Depositors will have access to different combinations of yield, maturity, and liquidity, depending on each curator’s decisions.

Midnight Adapter to Introduce Risk Limits and Withdrawal Protections

The adapter will impose restrictions on the positions vaults can acquire, including exposure and maturity limits.

By default, it will also prevent vaults from selling an entire position below its amortized value. Any exception will be subject to a waiting period before taking effect.

Curators will be able to limit the amount of capital lent for extended periods, such as more than 90 days. These limits can be reduced immediately, while increases will be subject to a delay, allowing users to withdraw their funds before taking on additional risks.

Another feature will be in-kind redemptions, allowing users to receive the underlying Midnight position even when a vault has no immediately available liquidity.

Positions will be valued based on the amount due at maturity, discounted at the interest rate established when they were opened.

Morpho stated that these restrictions will help preserve the noncustodial nature of its vaults while establishing predefined risk parameters for fixed-rate investments.
