A total of 100.02 Bitcoin (BTC) mined in July 2010 were transferred after remaining untouched for more than 16 years. The coins, worth approximately $6 at the time, are now valued at around $8.5 million.
According to blockchain records, the BTC arrived at an address on July 30, 2010, and remained dormant until a transaction was confirmed on October 7. Galaxy Research was the first to identify the transaction.
The funds originated from two mining rewards dating back to 2010, one worth 50 BTC and the other 50.02 BTC, including fees. At the time, miners received 50 Bitcoin for every block mined.
Although the coins date back to the so-called Satoshi era, when Bitcoin’s creator was still actively involved in the project, there is no evidence directly linking them to Satoshi Nakamoto.
The address had previously conducted other Bitcoin transactions, including transfers of 200 BTC in 2015, 100 BTC in 2017, and 249 BTC in 2018. However, these specific 100.02 BTC had never been spent.
The latest transaction distributed approximately 10 BTC to one address and 90.02 BTC to another, along with small amounts received at later dates.
Both balances remain unspent. The transfer does not confirm a sale, nor does it establish whether the person currently controlling the coins is their original owner.
