TL;DR

  • Backpack Securities launched a tokenized version of the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF (EWZ) on Solana, redeemable 1:1 for traditional ETF shares.
  • The launch coincided with a sharp Brazilian market rally after the first-round presidential election, with EWZ rising about 13% and the Bovespa gaining more than 8%.
  • Tokenized equities are expanding rapidly, with onchain public equities reaching billions of dollars as investors seek faster access to traditional markets through blockchain infrastructure.

Backpack Securities has launched a tokenized version of the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF on Solana through Sunrise, giving crypto-native investors access to Brazilian equities through blockchain-based infrastructure. The launch arrives as Brazilian markets react strongly to the country’s first-round presidential election.

The tokenized EWZ can be redeemed 1:1 for corresponding traditional ETF shares through Backpack Securities. EWZ jumped roughly 13% on Monday, while Brazil’s benchmark Bovespa index gained more than 8% and the Brazilian real strengthened over 4% as investors reassessed the country’s political and economic outlook.

Backpack Brings Brazil ETF Exposure To Solana

The election result added urgency to the launch. Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro finished first with about 47% of the vote, while President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received roughly 45%, sending both candidates into an October 25 runoff.

Markets interpreted the result as increasing the possibility of a more market-oriented fiscal agenda. The sharp reaction across Brazilian stocks, the real and EWZ illustrates how quickly investors can reposition around political events.

Backpack’s tokenized structure connects that demand with blockchain-based settlement. The company launched Backpack Securities earlier this year, working with Sunrise to convert traditional securities into Solana-based tokens that can later be redeemed for the corresponding security entitlements.

For crypto investors, the model offers a way to access traditional market exposure without leaving blockchain-based financial infrastructure. Solana’s high-throughput network can support trading and settlement activity while keeping tokenized assets within a familiar digital-asset environment.

Tokenized Equities Expand Beyond Crypto-Native Assets

The Brazil ETF launch also reflects a broader expansion of tokenization into stocks and exchange-traded funds. DefiLlama reported in August that the market capitalization of tokenized equities had increased ninefold over the previous year to more than $3.7 billion.

Its latest dashboard tracks roughly $2.7 billion in onchain public equities, with around $196 million actively deployed across DeFi. Those figures show that tokenization is moving beyond experimental products toward a growing financial market.

For Backpack, bringing EWZ onto Solana provides another example of how blockchain infrastructure can connect global investors with conventional securities. As more ETFs and equities become available onchain, tokenized markets could offer broader access, faster settlement and greater interoperability between traditional finance and crypto.
