ChangeHero is shipping seven fiat improvements in a single release, and the headline one is PayPal support. MoonPay joins as the third fiat provider, bringing a payment method that most non-custodial exchanges still cannot offer. UK users get GBP bank transfers. Two loyalty features launch simultaneously: the Mercuryo Boost cashback program and MoonPay Balance for fee savings. Roughly 80 new purchasable assets bring the purchasable with fiat catalog up to 170 tokens total. All of it in one release.
Each element here is a meaningful standalone addition. Together, this is the most comprehensive overhaul of ChangeHero’s fiat layer in a single release to date. The scope is deliberate: a new provider without updated filtering makes offer choice harder, not easier; loyalty programs mean nothing if users drop off before completing a purchase. Each component enables the others, which is why they arrive as a system.
Context: ChangeHero has run as a non-custodial exchange since 2018, serving 3+ million users across 180+ countries. Its crypto-to-crypto side aggregates liquidity from 10+ CEXs and DEXs, covers 350+ assets at a fixed or floating rate, and averages five minutes per swap. The fiat widget operates separately, enabled by licensed third-party processors. Until this update, the fiat experience had no loyalty mechanics, no PayPal support, and no UK bank transfer option.Â
What ChangeHero Users Get
The practical changes are concrete:
- Pay with PayPal. For the first time, users can buy crypto on ChangeHero directly with a PayPal balance, with no card or bank account required as an intermediary.
- UK users bypass card restrictions. GBP bank transfer sidesteps the bank-level blocks that have prevented many UK customers from or complicated using cards on crypto platforms.
- Earn on every purchase. Mercuryo Boost awards points on every Mercuryo transaction automatically. MoonPay Balance removes the processing fee entirely for pre-funded purchases.
- More tokens, fewer secondary swaps. With 150+ fiat-purchasable assets now available, fewer users need to onboard via a third token and then swap into their target asset.
- Cleaner checkout. The new provider filtering resolves to a single valid option for the user’s payment method, country, and amount. No manual comparison across three provider pages required.
MoonPay Joins a Two-Provider Fiat Stack
ChangeHero currently routes fiat purchases through two licensed partners: Mercuryo and FinchPay, authorized in Canada and Lithuania respectively. MoonPay becomes the third option, and the provider that unlocks PayPal.
Every fiat provider in the stack is a separate, independent system: its own compliance infrastructure, its own payment network relationships, its own approved asset catalog. Adding MoonPay expands all three simultaneously. Available payment methods increase because each provider contributes its own payment rail connections. The purchasable asset list grows because each provider adds the tokens its compliance function has approved. And resilience improves: a single provider outage no longer takes the full fiat widget offline.
This mirrors what ChangeHero has already built on the C2C side, where liquidity from multiple CEX and DEX sources pools to produce a competitive rate at any given moment. Fiat aggregation is more complex because regulatory scope varies by jurisdiction. The architecture is the same: gather from multiple sources, filter to what is valid for the user, surface the relevant options.
The table below maps the provider stack after the update:
| Provider | Main Payment Methods | Loyalty Feature |
| MoonPay | PayPal, debit/credit card | MoonPay Balance (0% processing fee on funded purchases) |
| Mercuryo | Card, bank transfer, ApplePay | Mercuryo Boost (cashback via Boost Points) |
| FinchPay | Card, bank transfer, APM’s | None |
PayPal as a Crypto Payment Rail
PayPal availability on a non-custodial crypto platform is still an exception rather than a rule. Most exchanges in this category have built their fiat stacks around card and bank transfer rails; integrating PayPal requires a provider that has already established that specific payment network relationship. MoonPay is that provider, and the update is when it reaches ChangeHero users.
With over 400 million active account holders globally, PayPal holds a significant share of retail fiat that most non-custodial exchanges cannot access. For users in markets where bank-level restrictions block card payments to crypto exchanges, a PayPal balance is often the most accessible fiat payment method they have. The flow is direct: select PayPal at checkout, authorize the purchase through PayPal, and the transaction processes through MoonPay’s infrastructure. ChangeHero holds no funds at any point.
What Payment Methods Does ChangeHero Support After the Update?
Two payment rails that were not previously supported on ChangeHero go live shortly. Full list of confirmed options across the three-provider stack:
- PayPal (via MoonPay): new, available in supported regions
- GBP bank transfer: new, UK-specific
- Debit and credit card: available across all three providers
- Apple Pay, Google Pay and other APMs: available in select provider and region combinations
- Bank transfer: available via Mercuryo and FinchPay in select regions
GBP bank transfer has more value for UK users than a simple payment method addition. Several major UK banks have blocked or restricted card payments to crypto exchanges outright, affecting a significant share of UK retail crypto buyers. That restriction is card-specific. Bank transfer is not subject to it. Sterling bank transfer also typically carries higher per-transaction limits than card rails and lower processing costs. By listing it as a named, UK-specific option rather than folding it into the generic bank transfer category, ChangeHero makes a targeted market move for a jurisdiction where card-based crypto purchases are actively obstructed for many users.
MoonPay Balance and Mercuryo Boost: Fee Benefits and Cashback in One Release
Before this update, ChangeHero offered no path to integrated partners’ loyalty or fee-reduction mechanics on fiat purchases. The two programs launching here work differently: Mercuryo Boost awards cashback through points; MoonPay Balance eliminates the processing fee for pre-funded purchases. Together they give users a financial reason to choose a provider beyond rate and availability.
MoonPay Balance is a pre-funding account. Users deposit fiat into a MoonPay Balance account before transacting; purchases draw from that balance instead of processing a live card or bank payment. The result is faster transaction processing (no real-time authentication), a higher success rate (no live payment failures), and a processing fee of 0% on purchases made through the balance. Standard network fees still apply; the 0% covers MoonPay’s processing layer, not on-chain costs. Once the balance is funded, it acts as a reusable wallet: subsequent purchases on ChangeHero draw from it automatically with no re-authentication step.
Mercuryo Boost is a points-based cashback programme that activates without any sign-up. Any purchase made through Mercuryo on changehero.io enrolls the user from the first transaction and starts accumulating Boost Points. Those points reduce fees on subsequent purchases or convert to crypto once a sufficient balance is reached. Conversion rates and thresholds are set by Mercuryo and vary by geography, payment method, and purchase amount. The programme suits high-frequency buyers: the more volume runs through Mercuryo, the more Boost Points accumulate.
How to get started with each:
MoonPay Balance:
- Open changehero.io and select Buy in the widget
- Choose MoonPay as your provider
- Fund your MoonPay Balance
- Subsequent purchases draw from the balance automatically (no re-authentication required)
Mercuryo Boost:
- Open changehero.io and select Buy in the widget
- Choose Mercuryo as your provider
- Boost Points begin accruing from the first purchase (no separate registration required)
How Does the New Provider Filtering Work?
Three providers, multiple payment methods each, varying jurisdictional availability, and different asset catalogs: without filtering, this stack would produce a worse checkout experience than a two-provider one. The redesigned purchase flow addresses this directly with multi-parameter filtering that resolves relevant providers before the user sees the selection screen.
Filtering runs across four dimensions simultaneously:
- Payment method: select PayPal and only PayPal-supporting providers appear
- Country: provider availability adjusts automatically by jurisdiction
- Currency pair: the fiat currency used and the crypto asset being purchased
- Amount: providers with minimum or maximum thresholds outside the transaction size drop from the list
The logic is additive. A UK user buying ETH with GBP via bank transfer at a specific amount sees only the providers that satisfy all four parameters, often a single result. That is the design intent: one relevant option, not three partially relevant ones that require reading provider terms at the point of purchase. On mobile, where fiat purchases predominantly happen, the reduction in decision overhead translates directly to fewer abandoned checkouts.
The UX redesign is not the headline of this update, but without it, none of the headline items work at scale.
Expanded Asset List: ~80 New Coins and Tokens
The fiat-purchasable catalog grows by approximately 80 assets in this release, bringing the total to almost 170 tokens available for direct fiat purchase. That is close to doubling what was available before. The full platform catalog for C2C swaps sits at 350+ assets, accessible without registration.
The gap between the two numbers reflects the compliance overhead of fiat-to-crypto. Every fiat-purchasable asset requires explicit approval from the provider’s compliance function; jurisdiction and licence scope set the ceiling. MoonPay’s addition to the stack is the primary driver of the roughly 80 new tokens, since each provider contributes its own compliance-cleared list. As the provider count grows, so does the accessible fiat-purchasable catalog.
For users, the practical change is that assets previously only reachable through a secondary C2C swap after fiat onboarding can now be purchased directly. That removes a transaction step, the associated network fees, and the time cost of a second exchange.
Where the Platform Goes From Here
The update does not modify one part of ChangeHero’s fiat offering. It modifies the entire layer at once: new provider, new payment rails, new loyalty mechanics, new purchase UX, expanded asset catalog. The individual components are not independent improvements. They are load-bearing parts of the same structure, and they ship together because that is the only configuration in which they all work.
What ChangeHero’s fiat widget can do now is materially different from August. PayPal as a purchase method. GBP bank transfer for the UK. Zero-fee purchases through MoonPay Balance. Cashback points through Mercuryo Boost. Up to 170 fiat-purchasable assets. A purchase flow that resolves to a single valid option rather than asking users to compare provider terms mid-transaction. These are not incremental additions to a working system. They are the system being rebuilt to a different specification.
