TL;DR

  • Robinhood’s crypto trading volume reached $17.5 billion in August, rising 61% from July while remaining 38% below August 2025.
  • Bitstamp generated $10.1 billion of the total, while the Robinhood app contributed $7.4 billion.
  • The rebound comes alongside broader platform growth, with funded customers reaching 28.6 million and total platform assets climbing to $384 billion.

Robinhood’s crypto business recorded a sharp monthly rebound in August, even as trading activity remained below last year’s levels. The latest figures suggest that demand for digital assets remains significant across both retail and institutional channels.

The brokerage reported $17.5 billion in crypto trading volume for August, a 61% increase from July’s $10.9 billion. However, the figure was still 38% lower than the $28.1 billion recorded in August 2025, showing that the recovery has not yet returned activity to last year’s pace.

Robinhood Crypto Volume Rebounds Across Both Platforms

The monthly increase was spread across Robinhood’s main app and Bitstamp. Trading volume on the Robinhood app climbed 72% month-over-month to $7.4 billion, while Bitstamp generated $10.1 billion, up 53% from July. Year-over-year, however, the two businesses remained down 46% and 30%, respectively.

Bitstamp’s contribution is particularly important because Robinhood completed its acquisition of the crypto exchange in June 2025 for approximately $200 million. Bitstamp brought more than 50 active licenses and registrations and a largely institutional customer base, giving Robinhood greater access to international and professional crypto trading activity.

The August figures also show why crypto remains strategically relevant for Robinhood. In the second quarter, Bitstamp represented a growing share of the company’s crypto activity, while its institutional volumes continued expanding after the acquisition. Robinhood has used the deal to broaden its crypto infrastructure beyond its traditional retail customer base.

Robinhood’s crypto trading volume reached $17.5 billion in August, rising 61% from July while remaining 38% below August 2025.

Broader Platform Growth Supports Crypto Expansion

Robinhood’s wider operating data provides additional context. Funded customers reached 28.6 million at the end of August, up approximately 1.9 million from a year earlier, while total platform assets rose to $384 billion, a 26% annual increase. Net deposits reached $4 billion during the month.

Crypto is also becoming part of a broader financial product ecosystem that includes equities, options, prediction markets and other digital-asset services. Robinhood has expanded crypto access in Europe, introduced staking for eligible U.S. customers and launched crypto perpetual futures in Europe, reflecting a strategy that treats digital assets as a core trading category rather than a standalone product.
