Is Your Crypto Platform a Scam? Here’s How to Tell Before It’s Too Late

Scammers are impersonating crypto compliance services to trick users into approving transactions that put their digital assets at risk.

Cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes published a report warning about scams based on fake sites that mimic anti-money laundering (AML) checkers, designed to request wallet connections under the guise of a legitimate analysis. Some of these sites replicate the aesthetics of AMLBot, a real service of this kind, while others operate under generic names such as “AML Check“.

The mechanism is simple but effective: the platforms designed by scammers simulate a verification process with fake progress messages and return results such as “Clean, Low Risk” without having performed any real analysis. In some cases, they also request a small payment as a supposed fee.

The core issue is that a legitimate AML check only requires entering the wallet’s public address, with no need to connect it or sign any transaction. Connecting the wallet does not allow direct theft of funds, but it exposes the user’s assets and enables scammers to generate transactions for the victim to approve.

Malwarebytes identified the same basic design replicated under different names and logos, suggesting that the scam template is systematically reused and rebranded. The firm recommends revoking suspicious permissions for anyone who has already approved any access, and considers any wallet compromised if its recovery phrase or private key has been entered.
