TL;DR:

  • Hyperscale Data sold approximately 685 BTC for $43 million to fund its Michigan data center, reducing its holdings to 275 BTC.
  • The company said the transaction strengthened its liquidity and allowed it to reduce its debt by approximately $30 million.
  • Several public miners are redirecting capital toward artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure.

Hyperscale Data sold approximately 685 BTC for $43 million to fund the expansion of its Michigan data center, reducing its holdings to approximately 275 BTC. The company stated that the transaction is “an appropriate allocation of capital” and noted that it strengthened its liquidity, granted flexibility to manage debt and capital structure, and reduced its liabilities by approximately $30 million.

Milton “Todd” Ault III, Executive Chairman of Hyperscale Data, emphasized that Bitcoin remains a central component of the corporate strategy. “We intend to continue mining bitcoin and, over time, we expect to use mining production and available capital to rebuild and grow our position,” he stated. Hyperscale indicated that the pace of any future accumulation will depend on mining production, asset price, liquidity requirements and market conditions.

Hyperscale Data Enters the Infrastructure Race

Hyperscale Data’s decision is already very common among publicly traded bitcoin miners, most of which are leaning toward artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. This repositioning took shape during the 2022 market downturn, when prices below mining cost put particular pressure on smaller operators.

Other companies in the sector executed similar moves. Core Scientific, which closed 2025 with 2,537 BTC on its balance sheet, sold approximately 1,900 BTC for $175 million in January and anticipated monetizing all of its reserves in 2026 to fund its artificial intelligence and HPC infrastructure placement strategy. Cango, for its part, liquidated 4,451 BTC for approximately $305 million, and Bitdeer also disposed of its bitcoin treasury to support its infrastructure growth.

HPC High performance computing

In May, analysts at Bernstein noted that bitcoin miners have become integrated players in AI infrastructure development, with more than 27 GW of electrical capacity planned collectively, in a context where securing even one GW can take approximately 50 months in U.S. markets.
