Ripple minted $10 million in RLUSD on the XRP Ledger in a scheduled issuance that coincided with a notable surge in activity among large investors within the XRP ecosystem.
Almost simultaneously, Tether executed a routine issuance of $1 billion in USDT on the Tron network, raising its inventory on that blockchain to $91 billion. The volume difference between both operations does not reflect a weakness of Ripple and RLUSD, but rather structurally distinct business models.
Tether operates as the primary instrument for retail crypto market settlement at massive scale. Ripple, on the other hand, does not compete in that segment. RLUSD currently has a market capitalization of $1.52 billion, approximately 20% below its May highs, and is issued selectively to fulfill specific B2B requests from commercial companies through the Ripple Mint platform, under NYDFS supervision.
The RLUSD minting also coincided with aggressive moves by large holders, who accumulated more than 380 million XRP over the past week. These maneuvers unfolded around the psychological $1 level for XRP, which major investors are defending as a key support ahead of a potential breakout from the market’s prolonged summer consolidation.
