The Layer 2 network Starknet announced the integration of advanced privacy features for the USDC stablecoin through its new native framework STRK20. With this infrastructure, it is possible to make confidential transfers and hide balances within the DeFi ecosystem, representing a milestone in financial data protection on the blockchain without altering Circle’s standard ERC-20 asset contract.

The arrival of STRK20 resolves the permanent exposure of data suffered by enterprises and institutions when moving capital on public ledgers. By utilizing zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP), the protocol masks amounts and addresses with competitive fixed fees, maintaining technical composability to swap assets privately on platforms like Ready and Xverse, while integrating viewing keys to comply with regulatory audits.

The next step for the ecosystem will be the deployment of additional integrations across more Starknet DeFi applications, expanding the use of these programmable privacy tools to a much larger institutional transaction volume.
