The structured products protocol ThetanutsFi suffered an attack that resulted in losses of approximately $2.1 million, according to blockchain security firm PeckShield. The incident affected the protocol’s reserves in options tokens, although a significant portion of the funds was quickly recovered thanks to the intervention of white hat hackers.

According to PeckShieldAlert, a white hat address managed to recover nearly $2 million in options tokens, substantially reducing the net impact of the exploit. The attacker, for their part, converted $105,000 in USDC for approximately 60 ETH and still holds options tokens in USDC worth an additional $34,000. The swift action of the ethical hackers prevented the totality of ThetanutsFi’s funds from falling into the exploiter’s hands.

This case is a clear demonstration of the relevance of white hat response teams within the DeFi ecosystem, whose intervention can make the difference between a total loss and a partial recovery in the minutes following an exploit. ThetanutsFi had not issued an official statement at the time of writing.
