The Solana Foundation promotes “100% network uptime since March 2023,” but the data from validator Harmonic Major tells a different story. According to validator tracker Slashr, that node recorded 32 outages in the last 30 days while managing a stake of 625,000 SOL, equivalent to more than $50 million. That figure represents 12 times the network average over the same period.
Unlike other proof-of-stake blockchains, Solana does not apply slashing for outages, so delegated capital is not directly at risk. However, delegators lose vote credits, inflation rewards, and MEV participation during each downtime event. Slashr estimates the opportunity cost at approximately $413 per hour while the node remains inactive.
The technical distinction is fundamental: cluster-level uptime measures whether the network produced blocks, not whether a specific validator was voting. That difference is what Solana’s marketing fails to clarify. As of April 13, Slashr counted 283 delinquency events across the network during the previous month, totaling 1,322 hours of individual inactivity.
Harmonic topped that ranking with 32 incidents. The company did not publicly respond to any of Slashr’s posts documenting the outages, while continuing to share updates about feature launches and hires during the same period.
