TL;DR
- X will launch Starterpacks in the coming weeks, a feature that offers pre-built lists of accounts by interest to accelerate onboarding.
- Starterpacks groups more than 1,000 categories, including cryptocurrency, technology, and finance, with subgroups such as memecoin trading, economists, and developers.
- The product was announced by Nikita Bier and developed over several months.
X is preparing the launch of a new feature called Starterpacks, designed to simplify onboarding for new users and speed up the discovery and following of relevant accounts from the start. The tool will be available in the coming weeks and will offer pre-curated lists of profiles organized by specific interests across the platform.
Starterpacks brings together collections of prominent accounts across more than 1,000 categories. Covered topics include cryptocurrency, politics, news, technology, business, finance, fashion, and digital culture. Within these groups are more specific subcategories such as memecoin trading, economics professors, software developers, and content creators with unconventional profiles.
Accelerating Onboarding With Starterpacks
The announcement was made by Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, who confirmed that the development of the product required several months of work. The team curated relevant accounts by niche and by country, integrating both large and small profiles within each category. The operational goal is to allow users to follow accounts aligned with their interests without having to manually build their feed.
The feature is intended to address challenges associated with new account growth. Bier noted that traditional methods such as contact syncing or manual timeline curation are ineffective for users who are new to the platform. Over the past six months, the team worked continuously on tools aimed at improving interest discovery from the first use.
Bitcoin Mentions Fell 32% in 2025
The launch of Starterpacks comes amid efforts to adjust engagement dynamics. Data shared by digital entrepreneur Jean-Christophe Gatuingt shows that posts mentioning “Bitcoin” on X declined by 32% during 2025. In that context, account growth and user retention rank among the platform’s main internal challenges.
The Starterpacks format has precedents on other social media platforms. In June 2024, Bluesky released Starter Packs that allow users to create personalized lists based on interests. In December 2024, Threads, Meta’s platform, began testing curated feeds created by community members. X adopts a similar structure through pre-designed lists integrated directly into the onboarding flow.
The implementation of Starterpacks aims to organize the initial experience on X through structured thematic curation. The feature will impact both first-time users and content creators, particularly within the crypto segment
