Tether partnered with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to strengthen digital security and protect crime victims in Africa. The collaboration is part of the Strategic Vision for Africa 2030 and aims to reduce vulnerabilities to cybercrime, support financial inclusion, and assist victims of human trafficking.

The program includes three key initiatives. In Senegal, a cybersecurity education plan for youth is being implemented with bootcamps, mentorship, and micro-grants, in collaboration with the Plan B Foundation. In several African countries, civil society organizations receive funding to provide direct assistance to trafficking victims in Senegal, Nigeria, DRC, Malawi, Ethiopia, and Uganda. In Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, local universities run student competitions on blockchain, promoting financial inclusion and fraud prevention.

The initiative leverages blockchain and emerging technologies to create secure and transparent digital ecosystems. Tether will preserve funds and resources within legal and educational frameworks, while UNODC will coordinate with local authorities to strengthen community resilience and generate inclusive economic opportunities.

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, and Sylvie Bertrand, UNODC regional representative, emphasized the importance of combining innovation, education, and cross-sector cooperation to protect communities and build trustworthy digital systems.
