Argentina and Brazil will be the pilot countries for the integration of the USDT stablecoin into real-time payment systems. The service will be offered through MiniPay, the stablecoin wallet built by the company Opera on Celo. The new service was announced during the Ethereum Devconnect conference. The feature, powered by Noah, allows MiniPay’s more than 10 million users to pay directly at local businesses through Mercado Pago in Argentina and PIX in Brazil.

This integration is strategic, as it connects digital dollar holders with massive ecosystems: PIX is used by 76% of the Brazilian population, and Mercado Pago holds a 68% market share in Argentina. By building this bridge, Opera is providing instant utility to crypto users, allowing them to make Stablecoin Payments in Latin America and avoid common issues such as foreign card rejection, hidden fees, and unfavorable exchange rates.

MiniPay has expansion plans that include integration with P2P on-ramps and off-ramps partners like El Dorado and Alfred. A multi-ramp approach that seeks to offer consistent and transparent options for users to transfer value between local currencies and stablecoins throughout the region. Additionally, Opera announced that they will soon implement support for Stablecoin Payments in Latin America using the PIX QR code, which will further simplify the spending experience for users.
