VitalHub, a blockchain company based in Canada, has deployed a blockchain-enabled COVID-19 electronic screening toll named DOCit. The app will used by a Region of Waterloo-owned Sunnyside Home Long-Term Care, located in the Stanley Park area of Kitchener, for the screening of residents for typical COVID-19 symptoms.
VitalHub made the announcement in a press release published Wednesday, April 8. According to VitalHub, the DOCit was developed in response to Sunnyside Home’s request for a solution to manage and conduct ongoing resident screening for symptoms typical of COVID-19.
According to the company, the screening tool leverages a VitalHub-developed mobile app DOCit, which was specifically designed with these kind of screening initiatives in mind. DOCit allows care facilities to deploy and configure any screening or recurring task, enabling reporting standards for care providers, operations staff, and national, provincial, or regional health authorities.
As the number of COVID-19 cases are increasing, the frontline care workers are also experiencing significant deleterious effects. So the reason behind Sunnyside Home choosing to deploy this innovative screening tool as one of several proactive and early-warning measures to protect their residents and staff.
Connie Lacy, director of seniors’ services for the Region of Waterloo, commented:
“We have been deeply grateful for the support and assistance that VitalHub has provided to Sunnyside Home. Their effective tools have greatly reduced documentation time for care staff and their responsiveness and support has been outstanding. During the COVID crisis, VitalHub has been there for us and responded immediately with innovative screening solutions. We value them highly as a partner in care delivery.”
VitalHub, based in Toronto, Canada, develops mission-critical technology solutions focused on healthcare information systems, long term care, community and social Service. The company’s solution includes Blockchain, mobile, web-based assessment, and electronic health record solutions. VitalHub’s DOCit is an innovative, cloud-based, forms and task management mobile app that helps long term care staff and facilities be more efficient.
In Blockchain-enabled products, the company offers a proprietary blockchain as a service (Baas) solution WellLinc, an electronic health record built on the Hyperledger Fabric, a blockchain framework hosted by the Linux foundation.
Dan Matlow, CEO of VitalHub Corp, on this new deployment, commented:
“The current COVID-19 crisis presents a very appropriate use-case illustrating the value and power of the DOCit app. As a home-specific, configurable assessment, the DOCit solution provides more in-depth analysis of COVID patients, equipping care providers with the ability to identify symptom trending and clusters of affected individuals quickly and early on, which we have learned is of critical importance in fighting the pandemic. Given the increased risk of severe outcomes, we believe enabling nursing homes and other at-risk facilities with these tools is very important.”
The use of Blockchain technology in fighting against COVID-19 pandemic has been gaining popularity in recent weeks as World Health Organization (WHO) has also joined forces major blockchain companies to launch a DLT-powered platform named MiPasa to enable precise early detection of COVID-19 carriers and infection hotspots.
