In a blog post, Shytoshi revealed the launch of Shib Name Service (SNS), a platform that allows users to register human-readable names for their Shibarium addresses. Shibarium is a Layer 2 blockchain solution built on top of Ethereum by the Shiba Inu team.
SNS is part of a larger vision called Shibdentity, which is a decentralized identity platform that empowers users to own and control their digital identities. Shibdentity will provide features such as self-custodial authentication, decentralized verifiable credentials, smart wallets, and a reputation system.
Shibarium Leaps Into the Future with New Feature
Shytoshi explained that SNS will simplify the process of sending and receiving tokens on Shibarium by replacing complex addresses with simple names. For example, instead of using a long and confusing wallet address such as 0xCD4C526E9981d690472d1cB85F2ddf08451C4673, users can use a unique Shib name such as “bob.shib”.
SNS will also support other cryptocurrencies and decentralized websites, making it a versatile and flexible platform. SNS will operate in a decentralized and secure manner, ensuring that users have full control over their names and data. To register a name on SNS, users need to connect their wallet to the platform and search for an available name.
They can then choose the purchase period and approve the transaction. The names are registered as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Shibarium, making them resistant to censorship or takedowns.
Shytoshi also announced that SNS is the first step towards building The HUB, a super app that will integrate various decentralized applications (dApps) and services within the Shibarium ecosystem. The HUB will enable a seamless and interconnected user experience, all while ensuring data privacy and security.
The dev concluded by inviting the community to join the new era of Shibarium and secure their names before someone else does. He said that the future is decentralized, secure, and interconnected and that he is excited about the possibilities ahead.
