TL;DR
- RippleX engineering chief J. Ayo Akinyele publicly urged Elon Musk to support RLUSD on X Money after testing the platform with a $25 transfer.
- Akinyele also suggested XRP could gain support if Musk opens X Money to crypto assets.
- The request comes as X Money expands its payment infrastructure, while Ripple builds RLUSD around regulated settlement and institutional use cases.
RippleX engineering chief J. Ayo Akinyele has publicly called on Elon Musk to add Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin to X Money, putting the XRP Ledger-based asset in the spotlight as X expands its financial services. The request arrives shortly after X Money began rolling out payment features in the United States.
Akinyele first thanked Musk after sending $25 to his X Money account and then asked when users could expect RLUSD support. He later responded to a separate request for XRP integration, indicating that XRP could also receive support if Musk gives attention to the proposal.
The comments are significant because X Money is no longer simply a concept tied to Musk’s long-standing plans for an “everything app.”
@elonmusk Thanks for the $25 gift in my X money account. Much appreciated!
When should we expect RLUSD support? 🤞🏽

RLUSD Could Fit X Money’s Payment Strategy
RLUSD could offer X a dollar-denominated digital asset designed for payments and settlement rather than relying exclusively on traditional banking rails. Ripple has increasingly positioned the stablecoin as part of its institutional payments infrastructure, including collaborations involving Mastercard, WebBank and Gemini.
That positioning gives RLUSD a potential use case inside a platform such as X, where instant transfers between users could eventually expand into merchant payments, international transfers and digital commerce. Stablecoins can also provide blockchain-based settlement while maintaining a dollar-denominated value, a combination that has attracted growing attention from major payment companies.
The connection between X Money and Cross River Bank is particularly relevant. Cross River is providing the banking infrastructure behind X Money, while Ripple has previously worked with the bank on blockchain-based payment technology. However, there is currently no confirmed integration of RLUSD or XRP into X Money, so Akinyele’s comments should be viewed as a public proposal rather than an announced partnership.
X Money Opens A Door For Crypto
X has already established the core payment infrastructure needed to broaden its financial offering. Its current rollout combines traditional banking services with peer-to-peer transfers and Visa functionality, while the platform continues moving toward Musk’s broader vision for financial services embedded directly into X.
Adding RLUSD would represent a significant shift because it could connect X Money with blockchain-based settlement. For Ripple, integration would place RLUSD directly in front of a large digital audience while potentially increasing practical usage of the XRP Ledger.
