Polymarket announced the official launch of its perpetual futures service, allowing eligible international users to trade with up to 20x leverage. The new offering initially debuts with 10 markets covering key cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Hyperliquid’s HYPE token, alongside traditional macroeconomic assets including gold, silver, WTI crude oil, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 stock indices, and a derivative contract tracking SpaceX shares.

With this deployment, Polymarket transitions from a protocol strictly focused on binary prediction markets into a direct competitor within the crowded DeFi perpetual derivatives sector. Unlike event-based bets with fixed expiration dates, perpetual contracts allow traders to hold long or short positions indefinitely, provided the required margin is maintained. The move is backed by a technical infrastructure upgrade capable of processing up to 200,000 orders per second, although access remains restricted for U.S. residents due to CFTC regulatory constraints.

Through this expansion into commodities, equities, and macro indices, Polymarket aims to consolidate its global liquidity share against specialized derivatives platforms. The protocol’s next step will be to monitor the open interest traction across these initial 10 pairs and assess the gradual rollout of new synthetic assets based on international market demand.
