A cyber espionage campaign linked to North Korea has compromised thousands of companies worldwide. The hacking group, known as PurpleBravo, targeted over 3,100 IP addresses across multiple sectors. Their primary targets included businesses in cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence, and financial services.
According to a new study by Recorded Future, the group used fake job interviews to gain access. Attackers posed as recruiters or technical interviewers on platforms like LinkedIn and Upwork. They used English names such as “Aaron” and “Boris” to appear legitimate. The fake interviews served as a method to deliver malicious code and compromise systems.
John Doe, a Cybersecurity Analyst at Recorded Future, commented on the methods. He stated the tactics show a sophisticated approach to using fake job offers for espionage. The campaign involved direct interaction with employees to build trust before initiating an attack.
