New York authorities arrested Ronald Spektor, a New York–based individual accused of stealing $6.5 million by impersonating a Coinbase customer service representative. Investigators allege the scam targeted a single victim in October 2024 through spoofed communications that redirected the user to a phishing site, resulting in the loss of funds.

Blockchain investigator ZachXBT played a central role in identifying the suspect. In November 2024, the analyst published a detailed investigation after the victim requested assistance. The findings connected wallet activity, exchange transfers, email addresses, and New York IP data to Spektor. Additional evidence emerged after the suspect displayed a Ledger Live wallet during a Discord screen share, showing large deposits shortly after the theft.

ZachXBT reported that only part of the stolen funds ended under Spektor’s control, suggesting the presence of possible accomplices who remain unidentified. Authorities have not confirmed whether any assets have been recovered or whether restitution remains possible.

The case adds to a series of scams involving Coinbase impersonation, a method that continues to target users of large U.S.-based exchanges.
