TL;DR
- Investor Exit Offer: Monad created a $60 million program to buy locked MON from early investors, but participation was minimal.
- Token Economics: MON trades below its public sale price, with major unlocks beginning in November and a circulating supply near 11.8 billion.
- Network Growth: Activity on Monad’s DeFi ecosystem has surged, with deposits rising to about $895 million and stablecoins reaching roughly $707 million.
Monad offered a rare chance for early backers to cash out months before their tokens unlock. Despite the sizable pool of funds set aside for the buyback, nearly all investors approached chose to stay put, leaving the initiative with more questions than answers.
Early Exit Offer Draws Minimal Participation
The Monad Foundation said Tuesday it had completed a program designed to purchase locked MON from select early investors at a discount. The organization allocated up to $60 million for the effort, framing it as a liquidity option for participants whose plans or financial needs had shifted. Monad did not disclose how much of that capital was ultimately used, nor the number of investors who accepted the offer. It also withheld the discount rate applied to the purchases.
The structure of the program meant that any MON acquired would remain locked under the original vesting schedule. As a result, the initiative did not accelerate token supply entering the market. Instead, it simply allowed investors to trade future unlocks for immediate cash.
Token Performance and Unlock Timeline
Monad launched its public network last November, locking roughly 19.7 billion MON allocated to early investors. Those tokens begin unlocking this November, followed by monthly releases over four years. That makes the upcoming unlock the first moment when early holders can sell normally.
MON traded around $0.021 on Tuesday, about 16% below last year’s $0.025 public sale price. With about 11.8 billion MON circulating, the token’s market value sits near $250 million, compared with a fully diluted value of roughly $2.1 billion.
Network Growth Outpaces Market Sentiment
Activity on the Monad network has expanded rapidly. Total value deposited in its decentralized finance apps climbed to about $895 million, up from $360 million on July 2. Stablecoins on the chain total around $707 million, and decentralized exchanges handled roughly $79 million in daily trading.
Even so, the Foundation acknowledged that investor decisions cannot be interpreted as a clear bullish signal. Without knowing the discount offered, the refusal to sell remains open to interpretation. The Foundation said its goal was to support investor flexibility while keeping long‑term alignment intact.
