TL;DR:
- MiniPay launched a Visa digital card powered by Gnosis Pay, available to users in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.
- The card connects the wallet’s stablecoin balances directly to the Visa network in real time; the merchant does not need to interact with cryptocurrencies.
- Opera already accumulates more than 16 million activated wallets since 2023, and the new card will add spending capability to its existing fund-receiving function.
MiniPay, the self-custodial stablecoin wallet developed by Opera, announced the launch of its digital Visa card. The product, called MiniPay Card, operates on the infrastructure of Gnosis Pay and allows users to spend their stablecoin balances at more than 175 million Visa points of sale worldwide. The markets selected for the launch include Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.
Until now, holding stablecoins solved the problem of saving and receiving payments, but not that of everyday spending. A balance in a digital wallet cannot be used to pay directly at a store, on public transport, or on a subscription platform if the merchant does not have the specific infrastructure to accept it.

MiniPay Card: A Solution for Everyday Spending
Friederike Ernst, co-founder of Gnosis, described this problem precisely: “For someone in Lagos or Nairobi who already keeps their savings in digital dollars, the missing piece is not a wallet. It’s the last mile: the ability to spend those balances in another city without the merchant needing to know anything about cryptocurrencies.” The MiniPay Card aims to solve that problem.
The card lives inside the MiniPay application and can be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay to make in-person or online payments. At the moment of payment, the stablecoin balance is settled in real time to the Visa network, and the merchant receives their local currency without needing to perform any additional configuration. Funds remain under the user’s custody until the exact moment of spending.
Gnosis Pay Opens its Model to Other Wallets
Gnosis Pay acts as the card program manager, while issuance is handled by Monavate on the Visa network. This architecture allows any wallet or fintech with users and stablecoin balances to integrate into the system without needing to become a card issuer or a regulated financial entity.
The MiniPay Card has no monthly or annual fee. Transactions include a reduced foreign exchange fee. In selected markets, the card offers cashback in digital assets such as Tether Gold, USDT, and USDC. The platform has more than 16 million activated wallets since 2023 and records strong adoption in Africa and other high-growth regions.
