TL;DR:
- Midnight’s mainnet exceeded one million cumulative transactions, according to data published on October 27 by Input Output Group citing the official explorer.
- Daily activity reached 47,714 transactions on October 26, compared to the 128 recorded on September 27, representing a 372.8-fold increase over 29 days.
- The protocol enabled permissionless smart contract deployment on September 28, allowing direct implementations on the mainnet without mandatory prior review in Preprod.
Midnight surpasses one million transactions on its mainnet following a surge in daily trading volume, as confirmed by Input Output Group in a post published on Tuesday, October 27 on X, citing the network’s explorer.
Midnight mainnet has passed one million transactions.
A milestone for @MidnightNtwrk and the builders putting privacy to work. https://t.co/pQLponaohj

The organization described the milestone as an achievement for developers implementing privacy features within the protocol. The analytics dashboard shared by Midnight Explorer verified that the cumulative count crossed the one-million mark.
When comparing two daily readings taken 29 days apart, data from the explorer showed 47,714 operations on October 26 compared to 128 recorded on September 27. The absolute difference placed the increase at 47,586 additional transactions compared to the previous benchmark, equivalent to a daily activity 372.8 times higher.

Deployment of smart contracts and technical infrastructure
The increase in transfers followed the technical update on September 28, when Midnight enabled direct, permissionless smart contract deployment. With this change, developers gained the ability to publish contracts directly to the mainnet without requiring a mandatory prior security review in the Preprod environment.
Integrated applications also gained permissions to deploy contracts on behalf of end users. According to the official update report, this step was part of the timeline established after the initial launch in March, a phase in which technical teams focused on operational stability and tooling readiness.
In terms of wallet access, version 2.7.1 of Gero Wallet, released on September 16, incorporated shielded balances on the mainnet. According to documentation from the September update, this release added a connector capable of generating cryptographic proofs, funding operations, and submitting transactions.
The software also enabled fee sponsorship using the DUST resource. Through this feature, a user with multiple wallets can use an account that generates DUST to subsidize fees for another linked account.
Midnight’s architecture divides its native resource into two distinct components. Technical documentation defines NIGHT as the public and governance native token, while DUST functions as a shielded, non-transferable resource intended for fee payments and contract execution.
Under this framework, registered holdings of NIGHT generate DUST progressively. According to the initial launch announcement in March, an address requires a period of seven days to reach its maximum DUST capacity, allowing applications to cover third-party operational costs without requiring them to acquire resources in the market beforehand.
Banking partnerships, analytics, and regulatory framework
Institutional deployment encompasses corporate agreements aimed at issuing regulated digital assets. On October 1, details were shared regarding the partnership with Monument Bank, focused on a projected initial phase of 250 million British pounds in tokenized retail deposits.
According to the partnership announcement on March 25, each token will represent funds held in custody by the British bank on a one-to-one basis. The institution indicated that these instruments will carry redeemable legal backing and will be subject to UK banking system protections. This figure corresponds to a contractual target that did not account for allocations within the cumulative transaction volume reported in October.
The joint initiative with Monument Technology, a subsidiary of the bank, envisions subsequent stages to issue tokenized investment products and collateralized loans through the institutional application. The technology firm plans to make this infrastructure available to other financial institutions interested in the digital deposit platform.
In the area of on-chain data monitoring, Midnight finalized a partnership with Token Terminal on July 23 to track metrics covering transaction counts, block times, and contract deployments. Concurrently, an integration with Dune aggregates public parameters, including NIGHT transfers, validated blocks, and total DUST consumption.
Regarding United States public policy, the Midnight Foundation submitted technical comments on the joint proposal by FinCEN and OFAC concerning the GENIUS Act. In its submission, the foundation argued that protocols featuring zero-knowledge proofs and selective disclosure streamline compliance with financial sanctions prior to settlement without exposing participants’ confidential information.
