TL;DR:

  • LG CNS will incorporate Chainlink’s oracle infrastructure and interoperability standard into its institutional digital asset solution.
  • Both companies focused the development on issuing South Korean won-backed stablecoins and structuring tokenized securities.
  • LG CNS serves as the primary technical contractor for the Bank of Korea’s Project Hangang, an initiative focused on digital money clearing.

LG Group’s IT services arm, LG CNS, confirmed this Friday that it has entered into a partnership with decentralized network Chainlink to roll out institutional- and banking-focused digital asset infrastructure in South Korea.

The deployment will integrate Chainlink’s decentralized data layer, orchestration services, and the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) into LG CNS‘s digital asset architecture.

Both organizations stated that the core objective is to establish technical rails for the issuance, custody, and settlement of South Korean won-backed stablecoins. Additionally, the technical integration covers the management of security tokens (STOs) issued by domestic corporate entities.

The organizations’ official report highlights that the infrastructure will provide commercial banks with direct connectivity between legacy financial systems and multiple public and permissioned blockchains.

Data published by Chainalysis indicates that South Korea’s crypto asset market transaction volume reached $449 billion between July 2025 and June 2026.

LG CNS‘s operational standing adds significant institutional weight to the agreement, as the tech firm serves as the developer and lead technical contractor for Project Hangang—the Bank of Korea’s pilot program focused on digital currency and tokenized deposits.

The initial testing phase of Project Hangang involved roughly 80,000 users across seven South Korean banks to assess government voucher payments.

In early October 2026, LG CNS rolled out its proprietary enterprise platform, KITL, tailored for the institutional management of tokenized instruments.

Official documentation notes that the Chainlink partnership is specifically confined to LG CNS‘s commercial digital asset solution and does not constitute a direct technical integration agreement with the central bank’s infrastructure.

For his part, Chainlink Labs Chief Business Officer Johann Eid noted that pairing both technologies aims to provide a reliable verification framework for regulated value exchange.

Institutional Interoperability and the Won Stablecoin Market

The South Korean won consistently ranks as the second-largest fiat currency by global trading volume against cryptocurrencies, trailing only the US dollar.

Despite this high secondary-market liquidity, the domestic-currency stablecoin segment has seen limited technical development due to the lack of clear operational guidelines for issuing entities.

According to market analysis, adopting cross-chain protocols would enable South Korean institutions to synchronize internal databases with distributed ledgers without overhauling their legacy core accounting platforms.

Integrating oracles introduces real-time external data validation feeds—channels that are essential for calculating reserve collateral, executing smart contracts, and verifying corporate transactions subject to audit.

Chainlink technical documentation indicates that its operational model directs fees generated from enterprise software activity into the strategic reserve of its native LINK token.

The joint announcement did not disclose specific commercial rollout dates or list the commercial banks slated to initiate pilot testing.

The commercial viability of these instruments remains tied to the final passage of Phase 2 of the Virtual Asset User Protection Act by South Korea’s National Assembly, where lawmakers continue to deliberate capital and reserve mandates for stablecoin issuers.
