Ethereum core developers said in an All Core Devs meeting that the post-Glamsterdam upgrade has been named “Hegota” and that the lead Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) is expected to be chosen in February 2026.

Hegota is slated to follow Glamsterdam later in 2026 under Ethereum’s twice-yearly upgrade cadence. Developers said the main target is to increase gas flow from 20 megagas per second to 60 megagas per second, citing EIPs 7904 and 7976. Planning remains early-stage, with a focus on implementing Verkle Trees to reduce state storage requirements for nodes while keeping block validation intact. Developers also floated “state control” to reduce reliance on Layer-2s, after rollups such as zkSync and Base handled more than 92% of all Ethereum transactions in 2025.

Weekly active addresses fell to 324,000 in December, the lowest since May, versus nearly 440,000 earlier in the quarter. More than $224 million in consecutive outflows from U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs and a drop of over $3 billion in total net assets since mid-December.
