Several DeFi protocols are stepping back from public Discord servers after scams intensified, with Morpho switching its server to read-only mode on Wednesday and pointing users to alternative support, a report said. Morpho co-founder Merlin Egalite said on X that users were getting phished while searching for help despite heavy monitoring and safeguards.
DefiLlamaās pseudonymous founder 0xngmi said projects are reducing reliance on Discord and moving toward live support chat and email tickets because scammers can still DM users even after being banned, widening the support risk surface. Morpho said it has been testing Intercom, citing easier ticket management and AI responses, as teams prioritize structured support over always-on chat rooms.
Community reaction is split: some builders argue public Discords have become low-signal and risky, while others warn that abandoning Discord could weaken open collaboration. Watch for more protocols shifting to controlled help desks and for any push to harden Discord moderation practices rather than exit outright.
