Crusoe Energy, a pioneer in utilizing waste gas for high-performance computing, has announced the sale of its Bitcoin mining division to New York Digital Investment Group (NYDIG). This move marks a significant pivot for Crusoe as it shifts its focus toward artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

The transaction includes Crusoe’s Digital Flare Mitigation (DFM) technology, which captures flared gas from oil fields and converts it into electricity to power modular data centers. With over 425 modular data centers across seven U.S. states and Argentina, Crusoe’s Bitcoin mining operation accounts for approximately 1% of global Bitcoin mining.

NYDIG’s Expansion in Bitcoin Mining

NYDIG, a leading Bitcoin and power firm, will acquire Crusoe’s 270 megawatts of power generation technology and integrate 135 Crusoe employees into its team. The acquisition aligns with NYDIG’s mission to support Bitcoin’s proof-of-work security while expanding its capabilities in the energy and computing sectors.

NYDIG plans to continue operating and investing in the growth of the acquired business, leveraging Crusoe’s innovative DFM technology to enhance its operations.
