Charles Schwab announced this Friday that it is expanding its “Schwab Crypto” accounts to all eligible retail clients in the United States. Following a limited initial phase that began in May 2026, the firm confirmed that its users can now directly buy and sell Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), managing them alongside their traditional brokerage investments. To support this infrastructure, Charles Schwab has partnered with Paxos, a company that provides regulated custody, trade execution, and asset settlement.

This move represents a crucial step forward for institutional adoption by facilitating secure access to the crypto market for millions of investors. Digital holdings operate through Charles Schwab Premier Bank and are kept in dedicated accounts, entirely separate from conventional assets. With a flat fee of 0.75% per transaction, the company seeks to establish itself as the trusted broker for spot cryptocurrency trading.

Currently, the service covers almost the entire country, except for New York and Louisiana due to state regulations. Schwab’s next strategic step aims at the integration of new cryptocurrencies and the enabling of direct on-chain transfers, which projects a greater injection of institutional liquidity into the ecosystem in the short term.
