Chainlink Connects 600+ Banks to Blockchain Payments With Bottomline’s New Platform

TL;DR

  • Bottomline launched Global Pay Connect, using Chainlink infrastructure to connect more than 600 bank customers with blockchain payment networks.
  • Chainlink CCIP and CRE link existing payment messaging with onchain settlement without requiring banks to replace their current infrastructure.
  • The rollout expands Chainlink’s role in institutional payments, while LINK remains below its early-September peak after reaching $13.64.

Bottomline has launched Global Pay Connect, a new platform designed to connect financial institutions with onchain payment networks through infrastructure powered by Chainlink. The service extends blockchain connectivity to more than 600 bank customers while allowing institutions to maintain familiar payment systems and messaging standards.

Chainlink Extends Onchain Access Across Banking Infrastructure

The new platform combines Bottomline’s established payment connectivity with Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol and Chainlink Runtime Environment. CCIP enables value and data to move between blockchain networks, while CRE coordinates workflows across onchain and traditional financial infrastructure.

This approach allows banks to connect blockchain settlement to existing payment operations instead of building separate integrations for every network. Institutions can continue relying on established messaging standards such as ISO 20022 while blockchain activity operates alongside their existing systems.

Bottomline already operates at significant scale. The company is described as one of the top Swift service providers and says its platforms process more than $16 trillion in payments annually. Its Swift connectivity business also serves more than 600 banking customers, giving the Chainlink integration a broad institutional distribution channel.

Global Pay Connect Links Traditional Rails With Blockchain

Global Pay Connect focuses on connecting payment infrastructure rather than replacing it. That distinction could make blockchain adoption easier for banks that want access to tokenized assets and onchain settlement without rebuilding core payment systems.

The partnership also builds on Chainlink’s wider push into institutional financial infrastructure. The network has increasingly positioned interoperability as a key layer for connecting blockchains with banks, payment providers and capital markets.

For Chainlink, the Bottomline integration gives CCIP and CRE exposure to a large existing financial network. However, the more than 600 banks represent Bottomline customers that can access the infrastructure, not 600 institutions already processing payments onchain. Actual adoption and transaction volumes will depend on individual bank implementations.

LINK also remains closely watched following its September rally. The token reached $13.64 on September 7 before retreating, while September 17 trading data showed LINK near $11.25.

The launch gives Chainlink another connection to traditional payment infrastructure and strengthens its role as an interoperability layer for institutional blockchain activity.
