BlackRock, SBI Holdings and Startale signed a memorandum of understanding to explore connecting tokenized money market funds with JPYSC, SBI Group’s yen-denominated trust-type stablecoin. The official announcement says the collaboration will examine how tokenized financial assets and yen-based digital money could interact within Japan’s onchain ecosystem. The agreement is exploratory rather than a live product launch, placing the initiative within the broader evolution of stablecoins and tokenized finance.
Partnership Focuses on Infrastructure, Distribution and Regulation
Under the MOU, the companies will study three areas: technology and infrastructure, business and distribution, and regulation and market development. They plan to assess the technical requirements for connecting tokenized MMFs with JPYSC, potential commercial models, distribution opportunities and applicable regulatory considerations. The project is focused on building the rails needed for interoperability rather than announcing a finished investment product. The companies also intend to engage financial institutions, businesses and other potential partners in Japan and internationally as the framework develops.

JPYSC gives the initiative a regulated yen-denominated settlement component. SBI Group said it issued the trust-type stablecoin as Japan develops infrastructure around its stablecoin framework under the Payment Services Act. Connecting JPYSC with tokenized funds could create a bridge between yen-based digital money and blockchain representations of traditional financial assets. The MOU builds on SBI and Startale’s earlier JPYSC rollout, which positioned the stablecoin as part of a broader institutional onchain strategy.
BlackRock brings experience in tokenized cash products to the collaboration. BlackRock Japan said tokenization can open new possibilities for financial markets and deliver new value to investors in Japan. The asset manager has already expanded into blockchain-based money market structures, including tokenized money market funds designed for stablecoin reserve use. The new MOU does not identify a specific BlackRock fund that will connect with JPYSC, meaning any direct product integration remains subject to further technical, business and regulatory work rather than being confirmed today.
The agreement also fits SBI and Startale’s wider effort to develop infrastructure for tokenized securities and onchain settlement. Their Strium initiative targets tokenized securities and real-world assets, while JPYSC provides a yen-denominated monetary layer for potential settlement use cases. The BlackRock collaboration extends that strategy toward tokenized money market funds, but its outcome remains open-ended. For now, the parties have committed to exploration, market development and partner engagement, not a commercial launch or guaranteed integration.
