The renowned investment arm Binance Labs has officially announced its rebranding as “YZi Labs”, marking the beginning of a new era for the organization. This change not only reflects its independence from the crypto giant Binance but also symbolizes its decision to diversify its focus into key sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), biotechnology, sustainability, and, of course, Web3 technology. With this evolution, YZi Labs seeks to redefine its role as a global leader in driving innovation across industries and fostering projects that address some of the most pressing challenges in the modern world.
Renewed Leadership and Expanded Vision
As part of this transformation, Ella Zhang, the first director of Binance Labs in 2018, returns to lead the organization. During her initial tenure, Zhang oversaw more than 40 high-impact startups, including Polygon, Injective Protocol, and CertiK, through the first incubation programs. Now, with a broader vision, she aims to strengthen YZi Labs’ presence in emerging sectors, highlighting the intersection of AI, biotechnology, and blockchain.
Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the founder of Binance, continues to play an active role in investment activities by providing direct mentorship to founders, reinforcing YZi Labs’ commitment to the long-term development of its projects.
The rebranding also includes refining the incubation program with the relaunch of a 12-week, in-person residency designed to foster collaboration among entrepreneurs.
Focus on Innovation and Sustainability
YZi Labs positions itself as an investment firm focused on projects with strong fundamentals that aim to create lasting impact. Among its new objectives is exploring how innovations in AI and biotechnology can integrate with Web3 to develop groundbreaking solutions.
“This rebranding is more than just a name change; it signifies an expanded vision toward transformative technologies. We are thrilled to welcome Ella Zhang back to lead this crucial phase,”
commented CZ.
Zhang added:
“We are broadening our horizons into new fields like AI and biotechnology, while staying rooted in our Web3 foundations. Our mission remains to empower visionary founders with strong execution to create lasting value.”
With a portfolio that includes over 250 projects across 25 countries, YZi Labs plans to continue building a solid foundation to lead the next wave of technological innovation.
