Offchain Labs, the company behind the Layer 2 scalability solution, Arbitrum, has officially launched Arbitrum Orbit, a highly anticipated custom blockchain solution that is ready for deployment on the Ethereum mainnet.

This groundbreaking development grants developers the ability to build tailored chains on Arbitrum’s Layer 2 infrastructure without the need for permissions.

Its significance lies in its capacity to enable developers to create blockchain networks without the typical barriers associated with traditional development. This permissionless approach aligns with the broader philosophy of decentralized technology, promoting innovation and accessibility.

Currently, there are already ten Orbit chains in various stages of development, highlighting the considerable interest and demand for this solution.

The launch of Orbit marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of blockchain technology, as Offchain Labs provides the community with a powerful tool to build a variety of applications.

One of the standout features of Arbitrum Orbit is its integration with AnyTrust, an alternative data availability solution.

 

Arbitrum Orbit: An Ecosystem of Advantages

This integration significantly reduces transaction fees compared to Arbitrum One, which is already one of the leading Layer 2 networks with $1.8 billion in total value locked (TVL).

The reduction in transaction fees will make blockchain technology more accessible and, as a result, more cost-effective for a wide range of users, expanding its use cases.

Another innovative addition to Orbit is Stylus, a tool that allows developers to write smart contracts using Rust, C, and C++, while maintaining full compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

This offers a more versatile and efficient approach to smart contract development. Leveraging WebAssembly (WASM) technology, Stylus can significantly reduce gas costs, a major concern in the blockchain space.

Furthermore, Orbit chains retain the flexibility to adopt future upgrades to Nitro, the underlying technology of Arbitrum.

This means that Orbit chains can seamlessly incorporate planned features, such as permissionless validation and the ability to capture Miner Extractable Value (MEV) without requiring approval from the Arbitrum DAO.
