CME Group shares soar to new highs

During Q3 2026, CME Group reported revenue of $1.7 billion, a record figure representing a 13% year-over-year increase. However, the average daily volume (ADV) of its cryptocurrency micro futures experienced a sharp year-over-year decline of 46%, standing at 160,000 daily contracts compared to 297,000 in the same period of the previous year.

This drop in Bitcoin and Ether micro derivatives contrasts with the exchange giant’s aggressive operational expansion across the digital asset sector. During the quarter, CME enabled 24/7 trading in crypto derivatives, logging over $3.7 billion in weekend notional volume, and recently added new futures contracts for Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Uniswap (UNI).

Despite the temporary decline in retail volume, the exchange is strengthening its institutional infrastructure to capture greater medium-term liquidity. The next step for investors will be monitoring whether the new altcoin contracts and continuous trading manage to revive trading volume in the final quarter.
