This Tuesday, Starknet introduced Shadow Accounts, an innovative feature under the STRK20 standard designed to segregate decentralized application activity from the user’s main wallet. Announced across its official channels, this tool allows for the generation of persistent pseudonymous identities for each dApp, enabling a toggle between public and private modes without publicly exposing the master account’s history or holdings.

The proposal is especially relevant across the DeFi ecosystem, where the public traceability of wallets often compromises investment strategies, balances, and liquidity positions. Through the Starknet Wallet API, developers will be able to integrate privacy into lending, staking, trading, and prediction market protocols without redesigning their architecture or requiring users’ viewing keys.

Initial implementations will begin rolling out across key ecosystem protocols, including Ekubo, SuperVega, and Opus Money. This upgrade positions Starknet at the forefront of practical privacy on Ethereum L2 as it advances along its roadmap toward quantum resistance.
