TL;DR
- Solana is expanding beyond meme coins as World opens its standalone prediction market to more than 1 million waitlisted users.
- More than 150,000 markets are already available across sports, politics, crypto, finance and economics, with Chainlink supporting automated resolution.
- The launch arrives alongside major Solana upgrades, strengthening the network’s position as infrastructure for high-frequency trading and consumer-focused applications.
Solana is moving deeper into prediction markets as the network looks to build on its strong position in this year’s meme-coin activity. The latest development comes from World, which opened its standalone Solana-based platform to more than 1 million waitlisted users on September 9.
The platform expands access beyond its earlier Phantom wallet integration and already includes more than 150,000 markets. Users can trade contracts covering NFL games, seven soccer leagues, Formula 1, the 2026 U.S. midterm elections and Federal Reserve decisions. Contracts use simple yes-or-no outcomes and settle through CASH, a dollar-backed stablecoin.

Solana Expands Beyond Meme Coins
The move gives Solana another major consumer use case at a time when prediction markets are attracting growing attention across crypto and traditional finance. Instead of relying solely on speculative token launches, the network is increasingly supporting applications built around trading, payments, tokenized assets and event-based markets.
World also uses Chainlink Data Streams and the Chainlink Runtime Environment to provide market information and automate contract resolution. That infrastructure allows outcomes to be processed without depending on manual voting panels, while keeping settlement connected to Solana’s on-chain environment.
Solana already had prediction-market activity before World’s expansion. Jupiter launched Forecast in June with short-duration crypto markets, while other projects have explored professional and non-custodial event trading. Research from Galaxy noted that the category remained relatively small in the second quarter, but showed increasing product differentiation and infrastructure development.

Network Upgrades Strengthen The Case
The timing also matters for Solana’s broader infrastructure story. Transaction V1 activated on September 9, increasing the maximum transaction size from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes. The change creates additional room for more complex transaction designs, including zero-knowledge proofs and larger multisignature operations.
Alpenglow, another major consensus upgrade, is targeted for October and is designed to reduce finality times substantially. Together, these improvements could make Solana more attractive for applications that require rapid execution and frequent settlement.
For SOL, the expansion into prediction markets adds another potential source of network activity. Solana’s evolution from meme-coin infrastructure toward broader financial applications suggests that its long-term value proposition is becoming less dependent on a single speculative sector.
