TL;DR:

  • LAPTOP fell as much as 98% after launching at $0.05, with the team blaming sniper bots and thin liquidity for the sudden collapse.
  • Nansen found six-figure losses among some early wallets, including one down about $199,000, while most buyers had not sold their tokens.
  • The project plans to add 4 million LAPTOP tokens to Aerodrome liquidity pools after the turbulent launch, while founders’ 30% allocation remains locked for six months.

Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP memecoin collapsed as much as 98% from its opening levels after launching at $0.05, with the project’s team blaming sniper bots and thin liquidity for the reversal. The breakdown exposed how quickly automated traders can distort a new token when liquidity is too shallow to absorb demand. Sniper bots are designed to detect launches and buy within seconds, giving them an advantage before prices adjust. The team said the initial liquidity could not handle the rush, causing LAPTOP to spike before reversing as fast and leaving some early buyers with substantial losses.

Onchain data from Nansen showed 46,675 buy transactions against 16,038 sells over 24 hours, involving 20,085 buyers and 8,714 sellers. Most buyers had not sold by the time of the snapshot. The imbalance between purchases and exits did not prevent severe losses because thin liquidity amplified every price movement. Among five wallets examined, one was down $199,000 after realizing $171,000 in losses and carrying another $27,900 in unrealized losses. Another wallet that bought about 28,400 LAPTOP without selling was down roughly $118,000, while one address holding around 49,700 tokens showed about $13,000 in unrealized profit.

LAPTOP Team Moves To Reinforce Liquidity After Collapse

The project said it would deploy another 4 million LAPTOP tokens, equal to 0.4% of total supply, to incentivize liquidity on Aerodrome pools beginning September 10. The response centers on deepening liquidity rather than changing the token’s core allocation structure after the launch failure. The team rejected suggestions that insiders received preferential access, saying there was no presale and no allocations for investors, influencers or key opinion leaders. It also said the contract address, token allocation, security audit and other disclosures were published before trading began, maintaining that participants had access to the same information.

Even after the collapse, Nansen estimated LAPTOP’s market capitalization near $720 million and its fully diluted valuation $2.1 billion. Those figures can be misleading for launched tokens because small trades in thin markets can move prices dramatically. The question is whether liquidity can stabilize trading after a launch dominated by bots, extreme volatility and six-figure losses. The founders’ 30% allocation remains locked for six months and then vests over two years, while another 30% of supply is tied to a prediction mechanism under which tokens are either burned or sent to charity depending on outcomes.
