Uzbekistan’s National Agency of Perspective Projects said on September 7 that it and the Central Bank have launched a pilot to test HUMO, a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the Uzbek som. Humo Digital has been registered under a special regulatory regime, while the pilot will test issuance, circulation and redemption.
The project provides for HUMO to be backed by government securities and used as an official payment method for goods, works and services in Uzbekistan. More than 20 merchants are ready to participate, while Asterium, banks and other businesses will help integrate banking, processing and blockchain infrastructure for settlements.
The pilot is planned to run for up to three years under joint supervision by the agency and the Central Bank. The next phase will focus on testing real-world payment use, identifying associated risks and developing mitigation mechanisms before any broader implementation.
