Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has issued a warning over Fun Coffee, a crypto-related investment project accused of leaving investors with losses above $127 million. Authorities said the platform showed signs of a suspicious investment operation and warned participants that they could lose their entire principal.
Hong Kong Crypto Investigation Expands After Fun Coffee Collapse
Fun Coffee entered Hong Kong’s market in late 2025 by promoting a coffee-related investment model that promised returns of up to 222% annually. Users were encouraged to download an application, complete platform activities, and deposit funds through virtual assets to generate future earnings.
Many investors reportedly joined after recommendations from friends or personal contacts. The project claimed links to Vietnam, announced large-scale operations, and presented itself as a growing coffee enterprise with thousands of employees and plans for future expansion.
However, by the end of July, multiple users reported that withdrawals had stopped and some participants could no longer access their accounts. Several online groups began documenting alleged losses. Combined reports from around 4,000 members placed the estimated damage above HK$1 billion, equivalent to about $127 million.
The company’s listed locations in Hong Kong were also reportedly empty, increasing concerns among affected investors. Records showed multiple local entities using the Fun Coffee name, with registrations dating from late 2025 to early 2026.
Authorities Strengthen Response Against Suspicious Digital Asset Projects
Hong Kong authorities and regulators have increased efforts to protect investors while maintaining the region’s position as a regulated crypto hub. The SFC previously warned the public about high-risk platforms and continues encouraging users to verify licensed providers before committing funds.
Vietnamese authorities had also raised concerns about Fun Coffee before the Hong Kong warning. In May 2026, state media reported that investigators identified possible signs of a Ponzi-style operation connected to the project.
Hong Kong Police have received 115 reports related to the case and transferred the investigation to the Commercial Crime Bureau’s deception investigation team.
The incident follows other major financial fraud investigations involving digital assets, including the JPEX case, which led to thousands of complaints and billions of Hong Kong dollars in reported losses. These events have pushed regulators to demand stronger transparency, security practices, and investor education across the sector.
