Recent reports indicate that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) does not recognize cryptocurrency payments as valid income for obtaining a Digital Nomad Visa. In this regard, Alex Scott, community lead for Solana in the Middle East, stated that even salaries received in dollar-pegged stablecoins are rejected by immigration authorities, even when the applicant significantly exceeds the minimum income threshold required.

This measure creates a notable contradiction with the UAE’s image as a global center for crypto innovation and blockchain technology. While the Central Bank has approved dollar-backed stablecoins such as USDU and companies like Ripple expand their regional headquarters in Dubai, immigration regulations seem disconnected from the financial reality of remote workers and entrepreneurs that the country seeks to attract to boost its digital economy.

Despite these administrative barriers, the community of developers and ecosystem companies remains firm in the region. The next step for the country will be to harmonize its immigration policies with its financial hub vision to prevent specialized talent from seeking more flexible destinations.
