This Monday, it was revealed that Grayscale Investments modified its filing for the Hyperliquid ETF (GHYP), naming Anchorage Digital Bank as its primary custodian. This action displaces Coinbase, which previously served as the fund’s broker and custodian, marking a notable shift in Grayscale’s historical reliance on Brian Armstrong’s platform for its exchange-traded products.

The decision is significant due to the current dominance of Coinbase Custody, which safeguards assets for the vast majority of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. By opting for Anchorage, the first federally chartered cryptocurrency bank in the country, Grayscale is diversifying its technical infrastructure during a time of aggressive expansion. Hyperliquid, currently the largest derivatives DEX by volume, seeks to consolidate its institutional presence through this financial vehicle, which would be listed on Nasdaq.

This change in the S-1 filing highlights the maturation of the crypto custody ecosystem, where players like Anchorage are gaining ground against established giants. While awaiting regulatory approval, Hyperliquid continues to dominate the on-chain perpetuals sector with a market value that already exceeds $9 billion.
